Expert tips on how to Prepare for your Spray Tan

Once you contact Sunshine on my Shoulders for a spray tan there are a number of different steps you must follow in order to achieve a flawless tan and have a wonderful spray tanning experience. If you follow the steps below you'll have a radiant tan that will last for days. Preparing for your spray tan can be the deciding factor in your results so make sure you read below for tips.

Step 1: 48 hours before your spray tan you should properly exfoliate and shave your legs if needed. Use an exfoliating wash such as our Sjolie Body Scrub Exfoliator and/or an exfoliating mitt to remove dead skin cells or old spray tan solution. Best spray tan results are seen when the client exfoliates 48 hours before the spray tan and by removing or avoiding any lotion or perfumes the day of the tan. Any skin additives can affect how the spray tan adheres to the skin and may cause a blotchy appearance. You will also want to wipe away deodorant before the tan. We try to avoid spraying under your arms but when solution and deodorant mix it can cause a green tint so it's best to remove it before your tan with a baby wipe or wash cloth.

Step 2: During the spray tan you can wear a bikini, one piece bathing suit or your birthday suit depending on your comfort level or preference. We recommend a dark swim suit but color is not that important since any excess spray tan solution will wash off. We recommend wearing a suit you are comfortable getting a tad dirty. Tan lines or no tan lines that is the question? Our technicians have seen it all and still remain professional! Men, sorry but you must keep your swim trunks on.

Step 3: We will spray tan you in a portable spray tan booth so please make enough room for our spray tan technician to set up. We also need direct access to a wall outlet to plug in our spray tan machine. We have sprayed clients in basements, garages, outside decks, spare rooms and showers. Please choose a room that you are comfortable with our technician setting up her tent. The tent is over 6' high so we will need ceiling clearance to open it. Please also be aware that our spray tan machine can be loud so choose an area that won't interfere with a sleeping baby or other family members in your home. Don't worry the noise doesn't last long and it's totally worth it!

Step 4: After your spray tan you should put on dark, loose clothing to lounge around in and sleep in the night of your tan. You do not want to wear a bra or any tight fitting clothing. The looser fitting the better to avoid any smearing as the tan is developing. Our regular clients even use old sheets to sleep on the night of your tan just in case the color guard rubs off on your sheets during the night. It will wash out but just be aware this may occur.
